Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 306 AM CDT Sun Jun 29 2025
Through next weekend:
The pattern is fairly stagnant in the near term, with the
continuation of typical summertime airmass supportive of diurnally
driven convection. With PWAT in excess of 2 inches, the potential
exists for at least isolated heavy downpours which could lead to
localized flooding if they are slow moving.
Guidance has gotten more aggressive with the front associated with
upper trough over NE CONUS. This front is expected to advance
towards the region Wednesday. Guidance now has this frontal boundary
pushing further south across the area, which would leave us drier in
the wake mid to late next week. It is reasonable to be skeptical of
this, seasonally speaking, so have maintained the low end PoPs from
NBM (15-20%)
The amplifying trough over the NE CONUS will allow for upper ridging
to build over Texas, establishing NW flow over our region. Subtle
disturbances on the eastern flank embedded in the NW flow will keep
the chance for storms, possibly marginally severe, into late next
week.
Attention then turns to heat again for the holiday weekend as the
ridge over Texas propagates and builds over the region. Early
guidance is showing this around 594 dam. +850 temp anomalies suggest
above normal temperatures, climbing to the mid 90s and possibly some
upper 90s. This along with mid 70s dewpoints results in heat indices
105-110 once again. Heat headlines may eventually be needed again
later next week./SAS/
